Overall, the Bible makes it clear that an official marriage led by the clergy enters into marriage appropriately. Jesus blessed the official marriage by performing his first miracle at the wedding feast at Cana (John 2). His relationship with the Church is compared to that of a groom and his wife, which in turn shows the sacredness of the conjugal relationship. If we take all of the above into account, we can see that marriage is an institution that should not be considered lightly. In fact, it is a union of the highest distinction. „The marriage shall be celebrated in the honour of all, and the marital bed shall be immaculate… (Hebrews 13:4). God does not need state registration to recognize a marriage. However, in the eyes of the government, Christians cannot marry without obtaining a marriage certificate. The reason they want to marry in the eyes of the government is that if you marry according to government standards, you get all the protections, benefits, and privileges that come with state-sanctioned marriage. Of course, these should help to take care of, promote and care for the families who are getting together and getting married.
Therefore, I would recommend to Christians not only to marry in the eyes of God, but also to take the next step and get married in the eyes of the government and get the marriage certificate. In this way, they can work with the government and receive the protection and privileges that come with state-sanctioned marriage. As governments slide towards socialism, they begin to motivate their citizens to behave more and more irresponsibly. Millennials have rejected legal marriages in numbers far beyond previous generations. Indeed, state benefits for single parents would be lost if they married legally. Thus, millennials still live together as a nuclear family, but they bypass the institution of marriage. Because they think that marriage through a state license is the breakdown and absinthe of marriage, they consider themselves single, which means they are not spiritually married either. A conjugal relationship that uses a private contract is not a sin based on the Word of God.
It should be attested by two or more parties, so it is more difficult for the participants to deny that the marriage took place (cf. the principle of Deuteronomy 17:6). It seems that a marriage license granted by the state was relatively unusual until the late nineteenth or early twentieth century, at least in the United States. Deuteronomy 24:1-4 is also one of many examples where Jewish law required a divorce certificate to dissolve a marriage. The fact that a divorce certificate was needed suggests that a Jewish marriage was a legally binding relationship. Update: The Supreme Court removed the issue of same-sex marriage from state hands by legalizing it in all 50 states on June 26, 2015. Interestingly, this verse links the idea of marriage to legal practices. In Romans 13, Paul tells us to submit to the ruling authorities. In other words, we must obey the laws of the land because God brought these people to power. Then he writes in verse 7: „Give to all what they are entitled to: the tax, to whom the tax is due; Custom, to whom custom; Fear of whom; Honor to whom honor. I would question your son`s sincerity in his intention to marry.
If he is really serious about the vow „until death separates us,” why would he resist making that vow legal? Often, people are deceived by their concern for the consequences of their actions. The consequences of dissolving a legal marriage are much less important than they were before, but remain significant. It could be that these consequences bother him, which means that he does not enter into a covenant relationship, but only a temporary agreement – and this is not a marriage. A generation earlier, Isaac married Rebecca by having sex with her the same day he met her. Genesis 24:67 says, „And Isaac brought him into his mother Sarah`s tent, and he took Rebekah, and she became his wife, and he loved her; So Isaac was comforted after his mother`s death. These spiritual marriages were not preceded by civil ceremonies, nor did these patriarchs receive marriage certificates of any kind, but they were actual marriages that lasted until the death of one of the two partners. Why do Christians need a church wedding and a piece of state paper to make their marriage „official”? My girlfriend and I are both devoted believers and we intend to spend the rest of our lives together. We wondered why we should bother to apply for a marriage license. Isn`t marriage a private and personal alliance? And isn`t the spiritual aspect of this covenant more important than anything else? When we move in together and start having sex, doesn`t it make us married in God`s eyes? Conjugal union in one of the United States of America is not necessarily the same as conjugal union from a biblical point of view; One is purely legal in nature and the other is both spiritual and legal. When a man and a woman want to get married, they go to the state where they live and apply for a marriage license. To obtain this license, they must meet certain criteria.
Examples: Neither of them can currently be legally married to anyone else, both must have an ID that proves their identity, they must be a man and a woman (the Supreme Court has this on the 26th. June 2015) and they have to pay a fee and then wait a short time while these facts are verified.
