A small claims matter is an action for recovery of monetary damages, civil penalties, personal property or other remedies permitted by law. The claim cannot exceed $20,000, excluding statutory interest and court costs, but including attorneys` fees. Rules 500 to 507 of Part V of the Code of Civil Procedure apply to small claims.
