While Hemry (also known as „Jack Campbell”) is probably best known for his sci-fi series Stark`s War and The Lost Fleet, his foray into legal fiction is equally impressive. What sets A Just Determination apart from the others on this list is that it`s not just a legal fiction. It is also part of military science fiction, just like his other works. By Stephen CoontsJake Grafton Novels Series During the Vietnam War, attack pilot Jake Grafton, fighting with his conscience and trying to make sense of all the senseless death and destruction, decides to plan an illegal bombing raid on the heart of Hanoi. The President`s Assassin is a military novel in Brian Haig`s popular series about Army lawyer Sean Drummond. This time, Drummond had only three days to prevent the assassination of the president. This book is a quick reversal against time as Drummond`s trip to save the president is in full swing. (from the publisher). That`s why, in this article, I`m going to share five great legal novels that you can add to your summer playlist (or should I say „beach playlist”?). I also limit this list to one book per author (Sorry, John Grisham. I love your job, but it would be far too easy otherwise). Disclosure was written by the same author as Jurassic Park and is set in a fictional computer hardware manufacturer.
I was torn between suggesting disclosure or cell. In the end, I decided that the former had a stronger (no pun intended) case of legal fiction than the latter, which was more about technical compliance and investigative journalism. In Brad Meltzer`s military thriller, The Escape Artist, we follow the story of undertaker Jim „Zig” Zigarowski, who works in the morgue for the most secretive and sensational cases of the U.S. government. Zig has always prided itself on separating his work and his personal life. But when a new body arrives and is told it`s Sergeant Nola Brown`s body, Zig immediately knows it`s not really Nola. He knows this because he and Nola were childhood friends. Which means Nola is still alive. And on the run. Do you like military books? Do you like thrillers that make you feverishly turn the pages to the end? With the action-packed military thrillers on this list, you get both: fascinating stories about protagonists serving their country and exciting stories with twists and turns. You won`t want to put these books down. At the time, such a vision was in the realm of science fiction.
But readers didn`t know that it wouldn`t even take 15 years for the vision to come true. Military couple Michael and Joleen Zarkades are grappling with a marital separation that becomes even more complicated when one of them is deployed, forced to deal with their problems while protecting the safety of their family. The Street Lawyer tells the story of a rising star in the legal world who crashes to earth. This novel is somewhat reminiscent of The Firm and tells how Michael Brock, a lawyer with a comfortable job and an almost guaranteed partnership, went from being a nearly unpaid homeless advocate after a seemingly accidental violent encounter. For those who love legal and procedural drama, A Just Determination is what you could get if you combine JAG and NCIS with Star Trek. In fact, all the novels in the Paul Sinclair series, of which this is the first, could be called „JAG in Space”. As probably the most prolific author of legal fiction, you can`t really go wrong with one of John Grisham`s works. He has published enough stories that he can even fill out a list of the top 20 or 25. In this thriller, military lawyer Paul Terry takes on the case of a young lieutenant accused of shooting his commander with his own weapon. The Caine Mutiny discusses these issues, the intricacies of wartime military law, and the moral and ethical choices made by captains at sea in the context of the Second World War in the Pacific. And unlike other famous stories about mutinies (e.g., Mutiny on the Bounty), this mutiny is more legalistic than violent.
Kazuaki Takano`s Genocide of One is a Japanese military novel. During a briefing, the president of the United States is warned of a potentially deadly threat to the country: Akili, a three-year-old boy who is already the smartest creature in the world. Akili has the mental abilities of a supercomputer and the ability to manipulate important events as if they were nothing more than a game. And yet, he is only three years old and still has the emotional maturity of a child, which is perhaps the most dangerous thing about the boy. Now, Jonathan Yeager, an American soldier, leads a team of elite agents from around the world into the Congolese jungle to destroy Akili before the boy`s full potential can be realized. „Follow the life of Comrade Bean of Ender Wiggins, from his escape from the vile streets of Rotterdam, to his years as a student at combat school, to his role as Ender`s right-hand man, strategist and friend in the epic battle to save Earth from alien invaders.” By Richard MarcinkoSeries Rogue Warrior Marcinko, a former Navy Seal who is now an independent security expert, makes a shocking discovery: smugglers transport nuclear material to North Korea via Japan – with U.S. support.
