After gaining a solid foundation in the basic principles of law, the second and third years will allow you to pursue the areas of legal and intellectual research that you are passionate about. You can choose from over 200 classes, which can be as small as 10 students, allowing for lively debate and direct collaboration with faculty. Our professors bring legal theory to life with creative, interactive lectures and presentations. Most classes are small and the intimate learning environment encourages discussion and debate. Not all courses are taught every year. Please note the semi-annual schedules. Click here to see the descriptions of the first year courses. Many elective courses, especially on topics tested in the demanding California and New York bar exams, are offered annually, and often twice a year. While not all courses are offered every year, you have a wide range of electives to choose from. You can search for current and current course descriptions for an example. We offer many courses in all major areas of law, so you can focus on a specific goal in addition to our highlighted areas of interest. Many USC Gould courses will help you master legal writing and practical legal skills that are in high demand by employers – who are increasingly unlikely to provide in-house on-the-job training.
To graduate, all students must take a high school writing course as well as a practical skills course. In addition, we offer the fundamentals of business as an elective of one credit unit / no credit in the first half of the fall semester. This abbreviated course is designed to introduce students without prior training or business experience to basic business concepts. This knowledge helps students in many high school courses and job interviews during the summer before the second year. In your first year, you will take eight compulsory courses that form the theoretical foundation of all law and help you develop the legal skills you need for any legal career you choose: when choosing courses with the depth and breadth you wish to pursue, you will have access to individual advice with faculty members, The Vice-Dean of Student Affairs, the Chancellor and the Office of the Registrar. You will also have many opportunities to meet alumni, leading practitioners, and others who can share insights from their own experiences that can help you in your decision-making process. And you`ll get advice on prerequisites before you can enroll in advanced courses. Add to Outlook or iCal: 2022-2023 Download as PDF: 2022-2023.
